The Summer at the Museums Festival (2019) is a series of over sixty events taking place during the school holidays in museums across Cambridge. As part of this, Patrick O’Hare and Lucy Bell facilitated the event “Cardboard Publishing in the Courtyard” at Cambridge University Library, in collaboration with project partners Sonia Morcillo-García, Clara Panozza, Francesca Harper & Holly Pines. Inspired by the Library’s collection of cartoneras (cardboard books) from Latin America, children aged 4-15 made their own books and design their own cardboard covers. The workshop was framed with talks and film screenings, explaining where, why and how people all round Latin America are using recycled cardboard to make books. Over 50 parents and children attended the event.
